INTRODUCTIONIntroduction by GLEN REAGAN THE WORLD FAMOUS COWBOY SINGER This is to introduce Mountain Mac the cowboy poet from Wisconsin. He claims to be a cowboy from Wisconsin because its the Dairy State and they have lots of cows and he was a boy back there. Makes sense to him. When he first told me about this my response was:
"WISCONSIN????"
An additional comment by "Lefty" THE FAMOUS COWBOY COMIC: "I think Mac gets some of his inspiration from drinking my famous Mormon Lake Elixir. it also removes warts."
And a final comment from JAKE the DRUMMER:
"I like to hear Mac do chicken. You know when he reads his poultry..."
HISTORY AND PHILOSPHY
A short history of Cowboy Poetry: It started a long time go. It's been done by a lot of folks. It is still being done. It ranges in quality from very good on down. Way,way down. It ranges in quantity from short to way toO long. For more information talk to some old cowboy poets.

I would like to dedicate this book to my cowboy poet hero the great Baxter Black whose own volume, Croutons On A Cow Pie, was the main inspiration for my very first cowboy poem, How High Is A Cow Pie. Below is the note of encouragement from Baxter that I received from him after he was sent a copy of HHIACP by George Gatley, a local TV personality here in Yuma AZ, who heard me recite it at a party. You will note that even great poets can have a word typed wrong.

HOW HIGH IS A COW PIE
THE OTHER NIGHT IN THE BUNKHOUSE DURING THE TIME WHEN WE ALWAYS TRY TO ADDRESS GREAT, EARTH SHAKING ISSUES AND I ASSURE YOU, THIS IS NO LIE WE DISCUSSED THE IMPORTANT QUESTION -- HOW HIGH IS A COW PIE???? , BEING GOOD PHILOSOPHICAL COWBOYS WE FIRST DEFINED THE WORD HIGH WHETHER THIS REFERRED TO THE HEIGHT OR THE AROMA THAT ROSE TO THE SKY DECIDING THE TOPIC WAS HEIGHT WE THEN PROCEEDED FROM THERE WE KNOW ALL ABOUT THE AROMA IT'S SOMETHING WE ALL HAVE TO SHARE OUR BOOTS, OUR CLOTHES, THE DUST WHAT A SMELL BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT I INTENDED TO TELL AFTER MANY HOURS OF DISCUSSION IN WHICH NO OPINION COULD CARRY WE DECIDED THAT THERE WERE TWO FACTORS THAT COULD MAKE COW PIE HEIGHT VARY IF COLD AND DRY AND SHRIVELED THE KIND THAT ARE GOOD TO THROW WHEN PLAYING COW PIE FRISBEE THEIR HEIGHT IS USUALLY LOW IF WARM AND MOIST AND STEAMING, THE ONES YOU STEP IN YOU KNOW. THEIR HEIGHT (AND AROMA) IS HIGHER AND THEY'RE NEVER GOOD TO THROW
